Assistant Professor, Elementary Education

Loyola College in Maryland


The position involves teaching undergraduate teacher education courses that may include: introduction to elementary education, learning theory, elementary mathematics methods, and educational foundations. Research, service on college and departmental committees, and community involvement are expected. Loyola's Education Department is accredited by NCATE and the elementary Education program is approved by the Maryland State Department of Education.
Minimal qualifications include: (1) an earned doctorate with a specialization in elementary education or a related area; (2) clear evidence of or potential for scholarly research; (3) experience as an elementary level teacher; (4) evidence of participation in professional organizations; (5) evidence of excellent teaching at the post-secondary level; and (6) knowledge of national standards and trends in elementary education. Applicants must have an awareness of and interest in the educational mission of Jesuit higher education.
Desired qualifications include experience: (1) with service learning; (2) developing and/or coordinating an academic program; (3) teaching specific elementary methods; and (4) using computer-based or distance technologies in teaching.
